Thomas Willian Abell, Age 23
Private, 32740, 2nd Battalion, South Lancashire Regimemt.

Thomas was the nephew of Mrs S. Woolger who he lived with at
26 Crown Street, Finger Road, Dawley.
Before enlisting Thomas had worked at the Coalport China works.
He died of wounds on 26th April 1918, whilst in a base hospital on the French coast
having been transported there after receiving his wounds in action earlier that month,
but from the time of receiving his wounds there was little hope of recovery.
Thomas is buried at Etaples cemetery grave reference XXXII.F.1
A copy of Thomas's attestation papers, this is from the Records office and
shows signs of the fire damage caused to these records during the London blitz in WW2.
It also shows that Thomas enlisted for Short Service (Duration of the War) and when he
signed up he was 20 years and 99 days old and that he enlisted at Ironbridge in
October 1916.
